 El pasado día 12-05-10 se celebró en la Escuela de Ingeniería Informática, en Oviedo una mesa redonda sobre el Software Libre en Asturias. El moderador, José Emilio Labra, director de la misma comentó que este era la primera actividad que la Escuela desarrollaba como tal, es decir, con el nuevo nombre (antes EUITIO). Luego presentó a los ponentes que por orden de derecha a izquierda (en la foto) fueron: Darío Alvarez (Universidad de Oviedo), Borja De la Noceda (Principado de Asturias), Luis Iván Cuende (Proyecto Asturix), -J.E.Labra-, Manuel Cernuda (Asturlinux) y Lluis Toyos (Softastur). Las tres comunidades, Asturlinux con su difusión del software libre en Asturias, Softastur, con la traducción del software libre al asturiano, y Asturix, con su implementación práctica en la primera distribución GNU/Linux asturiana y su proyección internacional constataron la importancia de una mayor divulgación y educación de la ciudadanía en una labor que están asumiendo principalmente ellas desde iniciativas populares pidiendo un mayor compromiso por parte de la Administración. El debate duró casi tres horas y fue muy participativo en un tema cada vez más importante y más necesario en nuestra vida cotidiana. Como casi siempre, faltaron los políticos que son los que deciden aunque estuvo presente el presidente de Área TIC, Juan Partearroyo como representante de las pymes y microempresas TIC.
Bernaldo Barrena (que ya cubrió la noticia Software Libre y modelos de negocio” del día 22-04-10 en Langreo, escribió el artículo para La Voz de Asturias: “Software Libre en el paraíso”.

El día 12 Mayo a las 18 horas en el Salón de Actos de la Escuela de Ingeniería Informática de Oviedo se celebrará la mesa redonda "Situación del Software Libre en Asturias".
Como moderador estará Jose Emilio Labra Gayo, Director de la Escuela de Ingeniería Informática de Oviedo.
Como ponentes estaremos:
- Luis Iván Cuende, Proyecto Asturix
- Lluis Toyos, Comunidad Softastur
- Darío Álvarez Gutiérrez, Asociación de Amigos de Internet, Catedrático de E. U. del Depto. de Informática de la Universidad de Oviedo
- Manuel Cernuda, presidente de AsturLiNUX.
- Francisco de Borja Garcia de la Noceda Márquez, Dirección General de Informática, Consejería de Administración Publica y Portavoz de Gobierno, Principado de Asturias
Espero que muchas personas os animéis a participar en ella para que sea más dinámica y entretenida.
Me parece un buen evento para decidir el cauce que le debemos dar a nuestros esfuerzos para conseguir potenciar aún más el software libre en Asturias, algo necesario en estos momentos.

 KDE is the most innovative desktop environment today and its most recent versions are the most functional and stable available.
Since the Akademy-es event is to take place shortly, it is appropriate to announce that the default desktop environment for Asturix 3 will be KDE 4. The main reason for this change, and there are many, is that KDE is advancing with giant strides from version to version.
The Association KDE España and Itsas, the free Software Group of the UPV/EHU (University of the Basque Country), are jointly organizing Akademy-es in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Basque Governent, This event will bring together KDE users and developers and is to be held in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Bilbao on 7, 8 and 9 of May 2010..
During the event talks, workshops (and other activities such as outings and dinners, etc.) will be held with the aim of meeting the following aims:

To bring KDE developers together from all over Spain so that they can meet and discuss the projects they are working on, sharing source, experiences and knowledge.

To inform university teachers and students about the potential and advantages of KDE with regard to promoting the development of final-year degree projects related to this desktop environment and also to give a stimulus to the growth of the community.
-
To make the KDE project better-known as a desktop and development environment to people without a technical background.

Asturix has been selected as one of the twenty projects to be presented at the Forum for Innovation Projects of the Europe Campus Party.
This is further recognition of an innovative and very special project that seeks to bring free software to the general public and aims to be more than another Linux distribution. It now has five versions and is fast becoming one of the most popular in the world as can be seen from Distrowatch's popularity list; since it entered the list ten days ago, it has risen steadily (and now occupies position 133).The project, free and open to everyone, continues ro advance thanks to its founder, Luis Ivan Cuende with the driving force and collaboration of the Asturix Development Team and is gaining success and fame specially outside Asturias. Asturix Store, is now a reality, and, with the collaboration in CADI with Kademar as well as the ambitious website compiler being developed, Asturix is today a project with an excellent infrastructure. It has a unique projection in the free software world where any developer, documenter or user, etc., can participate, showing one of the greatest advantages of free software, namely, the ability of anyone to make their contribution. Next Thursday 15th at 17.30 the project will be presented by Luis Ivan Cuende in Madrid, on stage at the Forum's Innovation Campus Party Europe in the "Magic Box." Dear Luis,
We are pleased to inform you that your project Asturix "has been one of the twenty selected to be presented at the Campus Party Europe Innovation Projects Forum.
The activity will be held on April 15 at 17:30 hours in on the Innovation Area Platform.
You will be given 5 minutes to present your project whichever way you prefer, by means of a demonstration or a presentation. The area will be equipped with computer and projector screen, which you can use to support your presentation with visual elements.
After the presentations, a question time will be held when the judges can examine the project in greater depth.
The winner of the Projects Forum will be awarded a prize of 3,000 Euros and its founder will be invited by the European Commission to attend the ICT 2010 to be held in Brussels in September.
