KDE is the most innovative desktop environment today and its most recent versions are the most functional and stable available.

Since the Akademy-es event is to take place shortly, it is appropriate to announce that the default desktop environment for Asturix 3 will be KDE 4. The main reason for this change, and there are many, is that KDE is advancing with giant strides from version to version.

The Association KDE España and Itsas, the free Software Group of the UPV/EHU (University of the Basque Country), are jointly organizing Akademy-es in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Basque Governent, This event will bring together KDE users and developers and is to be held in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Bilbao on 7, 8 and 9 of May 2010..

During the event talks, workshops (and other activities such as outings and dinners, etc.) will be held with the aim of meeting the following aims:

• To bring KDE developers together from all over Spain so that they can meet and discuss the projects they are working on, sharing source, experiences and knowledge.

• To inform university teachers and students about the potential and advantages of KDE with regard to promoting the development of final-year degree projects related to this desktop environment and also to give a stimulus to the growth of the community.

• To make the KDE project better-known as a desktop and development environment to people without a technical background.
